An unusual crane dismantling was carried out in Norway, where a Potain MDT 128 crane was dismantled by helicopter.

The operation, carried out in 2013, was needed because the crane stood on a pylon of the Hardanger Bridge near Bergen, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world (1,310 m). The pylon on which the crane was mounted is 200 metres high.

The crane, with a lifting capacity of 6 tonnes, was used to install the bridge’s suspension cables and for other work in extreme conditions: winds of up to 217 km/h and temperatures as low as -40 °C.
